Visa bonds of up to $20,000 become a permanent program for B-1/B-2 applicants

The Department of State finalized the temporary rule that launched a 12-month Visa Bond Pilot Program on August 20, 2025, and established a permanent visa bond program.
A person applying for a B-1/B-2 visa as a temporary visitor for business or pleasure may be required to post a bond to ensure that they maintain status and depart as required. Consular officers may require covered applicants to post a bond of up to $20,000 as a condition of visa issuance.
