U4U Re-Parole: Form I-131, Fees, and the Documents to Translate

Categories:Immigration
Key takeaways
  • Re-parole is requested on Form I-131, online or by mail, no earlier than 180 days before your current parole ends.
  • USCIS has not accepted new Uniting for Ukraine sponsor requests (Form I-134A) since January 28, 2025. Re-parole is for people already paroled.
  • The Immigration Parole Fee is $1,020 and rises to $1,050 on October 16, 2026. A re-parole work permit on Form I-765 costs $280.
  • USCIS says to file Form I-765 for a new work permit only after re-parole is approved.
  • Any document in Ukrainian or Russian that you include needs a full English translation with the translator's certification.
POVO is a translation service, not a law firm. This article describes what USCIS publishes about re-parole and which documents are translated. Whether to file, and when, is a question for an immigration attorney.

What re-parole is

Uniting for Ukraine, or U4U, let Ukrainians and their immediate family members enter the United States on humanitarian parole for a limited period of up to two years. Parole is not a visa and does not renew itself. When the period on your I-94 record ends, your parole ends. Re-parole is a request for a new period of parole, decided case by case.

The USCIS page for the re-parole process describes who may ask: Ukrainian citizens and their immediate family members who were paroled into the United States on or after February 11, 2022, who are physically present in the United States, who have complied with the conditions of their first parole, and who can show continued urgent humanitarian reasons or significant public benefit.

New U4U applications are closed

The Uniting for Ukraine page on uscis.gov carries a notice dated January 28, 2025: USCIS paused acceptance of Form I-134A, the online request to be a supporter, while it reviews parole programs. That pause concerns new arrivals. The re-parole process for people already in the country is a separate procedure on a different form.

How and when to file

  • Form: I-131, Application for Travel Documents, Parole Documents, and Arrival/Departure Records. USCIS accepts it online and on paper.
  • Timing: no earlier than 180 days, about 6 months, before your current period of parole expires. The expiration date is on your I-94 record.
  • Each family member files a separate Form I-131.
  • The form has been revised since the re-parole page was written, so follow the current form instructions for which box to select.

Documents USCIS lists

  • Your Form I-94 record. Download the most recent one from the CBP website. It is in English.
  • A copy of your Employment Authorization Document, front and back.
  • A government-issued identity document.
  • The identity page of your passport and the pages with admission or parole stamps.

USCIS also asks you to explain why you continue to need parole. People often support that explanation with documents from Ukraine, and those are the papers that need translation.

Which documents need translation

The re-parole page repeats the general USCIS rule: if you submit any document containing a foreign language, you must include a full English translation that the translator has certified as complete and accurate, with the translator's certification of competence.

  • Passport: the identity page of a Ukrainian foreign passport is bilingual and is usually filed as is. Ukrainian-only stamps and notes on other pages are translated if you include those pages.
  • Birth certificates of children and marriage certificates, when they show the family relationship that your request depends on.
  • Internal passport or ID card, if you use it as your identity document.
  • Supporting documents from Ukraine that you choose to include, such as housing, medical, or military records.
  • A change of name certificate, if the name in your passport differs from the name in your other records.

American documents such as the I-94, a lease, pay stubs, tax returns, or school letters are already in English and are filed as they are.

Fees in October 2026

The H.R. 1 law added several fees that apply to parole, and a Federal Register notice published on October 1, 2026 (91 FR 62540) adjusts them for inflation from October 16, 2026.

  • Immigration Parole Fee: $1,020 now, $1,050 from October 16, 2026. It applies to a person who is paroled into the United States unless an exception applies.
  • Form I-765, re-parole work permit: $280, unchanged.
  • Form I-765, initial parole work permit valid for one year: $560 now, $570 from October 16, 2026.
  • Form I-131 itself has its own filing fee, which differs for online and paper filing. Check the USCIS fee schedule (Form G-1055) on the day you file.

The work permit after re-parole

The re-parole page is direct on this point: apply for a new Employment Authorization Document on Form I-765 after your re-parole is approved. If you file the I-765 before approval, USCIS may deny it. The work permit request uses the same identity documents as the I-131, so the translations you ordered once serve both filings.

Your parole lasts until the date on your I-94 record, and your work permit until the date printed on the card. If either date is close, speak with an immigration attorney about your situation.

Before you file: a short checklist

  1. 1Find the parole end date on your most recent I-94 and count back 180 days.
  2. 2Check that your passport is valid for the months ahead.
  3. 3List every document you plan to include and mark each one as English or Ukrainian or Russian.
  4. 4Order certified translations of the foreign-language documents, with names spelled as in your passport.
  5. 5Check the current fee amounts on uscis.gov on the day you file.

No. The I-94 record is issued by U.S. Customs and Border Protection in English.
