What is special about it

Inside a Russian police clearance: the details that decide it

The form lists the name with patronymic, the date and place of birth, the regions checked and the finding. Electronic versions add a signature block with the details of the signing officer; paper versions add the MVD stamp and, when requested, an apostille placed by the MVD itself.

The finding as printed

The standard phrases about a record not existing, or about a prosecution that was terminated, are translated exactly. The wording matters to the officer reading it.

Patronymic and previous names

The full name with patronymic and the block for previous surnames are transliterated to match your passport and earlier filings.

MVD stamp or e-signature

The stamp of the information center or the electronic signature block with its validity dates is translated or described.

Apostille

For a Russian police certificate the apostille is placed by the MVD, not the Ministry of Justice. It is translated on the same order.

Which version do you have

MVD paper form or Gosuslugi PDF, which one is yours

Russia issues the certificate of the presence or absence of a criminal record on paper through the MVD information center or an MFC, and as an electronically signed PDF through Gosuslugi. We translate both in full.

Paper certificate from the MVD or MFC

Stamped and signed
  • A printed form with the MVD stamp, an officer's signature and a registration number
  • Full name with patronymic, date and place of birth, regions checked and the finding
  • Every field, the stamp, the signature and the MVD apostille are translated
  • Asked for by US consulates for immigrant visas and by employers who want a stamped original

Photograph the front, the back and the apostille page separately, in even light.

Electronic certificate from Gosuslugi

Most common today
  • A PDF with an electronic signature block naming the officer and the signature validity dates
  • The same finding and personal data as the paper form, in the same layout
  • Text, signature block and verification details are translated, with a note that the original is electronic
  • Used in USCIS filings and by employers who accept electronic originals; check your office's rule

Send the PDF downloaded from Gosuslugi, not a photo of the screen.

The whole document, not just the fields

From the form number to the last stamp, nothing skipped

Header and registration number

The MVD header, the outgoing number and the date line are translated in place, at the same position as in the original.

Text inside the stamp

The wording inside the round stamp, including the information center's name, is translated rather than labeled as a stamp.

Handwritten notes on the back

A handwritten date, a check mark or a note about the regions checked is translated and marked as handwritten.

Every date in month-day-year

The issue date, the date of birth and the signature validity dates are converted to the US format, with the original values kept beside them.

Where it is accepted

Same certified translation, laid out page by page so the clerk can compare it with the original.

Universities and WES / ECE

Admissions offices and credential evaluators get the certified English file with the original attached.

Questions answered

Russian police clearance, the questions we hear most

The certificate from Gosuslugi is a PDF. Can I file a translation of it?

We translate the electronic certificate in full, including the signature block, and note in the file that the original is electronic. How an office treats electronic originals is its own rule, so check before you order the certificate.

How long is it valid?

The form carries no expiry; each office applies its own rule from the issue date. The issue date is kept prominent in the translation.

Do you translate the back page with the notes?

Yes. The back may carry the officer's signature, a note about regions checked or an apostille; everything is translated or described.

Will USCIS accept this translation?

It follows what USCIS asks for: the whole document in English plus a signed statement that the translator is competent and the translation is complete and accurate. Every order includes that statement, signed and dated by the translator.

How much does it cost and how fast is it?

From $23.70 per document, certification included. A one-page document is usually ready the next business day; the date is confirmed before you pay.
