What is different about Ukrainian documents

Ukrainian paperwork has changed several times since independence: Soviet forms in Russian, bilingual forms of the 1990s, and today's Ukrainian-only documents with apostilles. All of them are everyday work here.

Ukrainian spelling first

Place names and institutions follow the Ukrainian spelling: Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa. Your own name follows your passport, whichever form the document uses.

Two alphabets, one passport spelling

Older bilingual forms write the same person in Russian on one side and in Ukrainian on the other: Mykola and Nikolai, Olena and Elena. The translation uses the spelling in your passport, and the copy of the original in the PDF shows both forms.

Dates the US way

Day-first dates such as 12.08.1995 become August 12, 1995, with the original in brackets where a reader might need it. Every date and number is checked against the original before delivery.

RATsS and DRATsS stamps, apostille

Civil registry (RATsS, now DRATsS) stamps, notary seals and the apostille from the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine are translated on the same page set, not skipped.

Questions answered

Ukrainian translation, the questions we hear most

Will USCIS accept this translation?

Yes. USCIS asks for a full English translation and a signed statement that the translator is competent and the translation is complete and accurate. Every order includes that statement, signed and dated by the translator.

My certificate is bilingual, Ukrainian and Russian. Do you translate both?

Your translator reads both and produces one English translation. Where the two sides differ in a detail, the difference is noted rather than smoothed over. The certificate of accuracy names the language pair.

Kyiv or Kiev? Which spelling do you use?

Kyiv. Place names and institutions follow the Ukrainian spelling. Your own name follows your passport: if it says Aleksandr and the document says Oleksandr, the translation says Aleksandr, and the original stays visible in the PDF.

Do you translate the apostille?

Yes. The apostille from the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, on the back or on a separate sheet, is translated with the document. Photograph that page too when you upload.

My document from Ukraine is written entirely in Russian. Can you still take it?

Yes. Many Soviet-era documents from Ukraine are in Russian only. Our translators work from both languages, and the certificate names the language actually on the page.
