What is special about it

Inside a Russian diploma supplement: the details that decide it

Russian supplements carry two grade types: a mark on the five-point scale and a pass mark for courses graded as passed or not passed. Newer supplements also show credits alongside hours. All of it is kept distinct in the translation.

Five-point grades and pass marks

Otlichno, khorosho and udovletvoritelno become excellent, good and satisfactory; zachteno becomes passed. The scale is stated once so the evaluator reads it correctly.

Table mirrored

Course titles, hours, credits and grades stay in the same rows and columns, including the totals row and the block for optional courses.

Thesis and state exams

The final qualifying work, its title and grade, and the state examination results are translated in full.

Hours, not guesses

Academic hours are copied exactly, including for practice periods listed in weeks.

Which version do you have

Hours only or credits and hours, the form changed

Supplements issued before 2014 list courses with academic hours and grades; the current form adds credit units beside the hours. Both are translated with every column kept.

Current supplement with credits

Issued since 2014
  • Several stapled A4 pages with the diploma's series and number, numbered sections and tables with columns for hours and credit units
  • Every course with hours, credits and a grade, practice periods, coursework, the final qualifying work and state examination results, the totals row
  • Every page and every row, table mirrored, grades as printed, scale stated once, credit units kept alongside hours
  • Asked for by WES and other evaluators and by universities together with the diploma

Send every page in order, including the last one with the signatures and seal.

Older supplement with hours

Issued before 2014
  • A folded sheet or several pages, often partly handwritten or typewritten, with the diploma's series and number and a list of courses with hours
  • Every course with academic hours and a grade, practice periods, coursework, the thesis and state examination results; no credits column
  • Every row as printed or written, with the scale stated once; unreadable words marked, not guessed
  • Asked for by the same evaluators; the absence of credits is normal for the period and is not a defect

Photograph each page flat and in good light; handwriting must be readable for us to transcribe it.

The whole document, not just the fields

Every row, every footnote, every seal

Headers, sections and footnotes

The section titles, column headers and footnotes about grading are translated with the table, so the English version can be read without the original.

Seal and signatures at the end

The rector's and secretary's signatures and the seal on the last page are noted where they appear, and a seal on every page is noted on every page.

Course titles, literal and consistent

Course names are translated word for word with abbreviations spelled out, and a course that repeats across semesters is translated the same way every time.

Periods of study and practice

Admission and graduation dates and the length of each practice period, in weeks or hours, are transcribed and converted to the US format where they are dates.

Where it is accepted

One translation, accepted where you need to file

The same certified file works for immigration, courts, universities and employers. Say who it is for when you order and the certificate is worded for that office.

USCIS

Green card, citizenship and asylum filings. Certification statement on every page set.

Immigration courts

Same certified translation, laid out page by page so the clerk can compare it with the original.

Universities and WES / ECE

Admissions offices and credential evaluators get the certified English file with the original attached.

Employers and licensing boards

HR departments get the translation with the certificate, ready to attach to an application.

Questions answered

Russian diploma supplement, the questions we hear most

Does WES accept this translation?

WES asks for a literal, complete translation of the supplement or transcript, and that is the format delivered. Whether the institution must also send records directly is a WES requirement separate from the translation.

My supplement is from the nineties and partly handwritten. Is that fine?

Yes. Handwritten course lists and grades are common in older supplements; anything unreadable is marked as such rather than guessed.

Do you convert the five-point grades to a US GPA?

No. The literal grade and the original scale are what the evaluator needs; conversion is their step.

Can you translate an academic certificate instead of a supplement?

Yes. The academic certificate for incomplete or transferred studies lists courses and hours and is translated in the same format.

How much does it cost and how fast is it?

From $23.70 per document, certification included. A typical supplement is ready in two to three business days; the exact price is shown right after upload and the date is confirmed before you pay.
