What is special about it

What gets checked in a Ukrainian power of attorney: names, dates, stamps

Ukrainian notarial documents follow set formulas: the principal's identity with the tax number, the powers, the term, the right of substitution and the notary's certification with the register number. Many are now signed at Ukrainian consulates abroad, and the consular block differs from a notary's.

Principal and attorney

Both persons are named in full as printed, with the tax number kept, and your name follows your passport spelling.

Powers and term

The list of powers, any limits, the right of substitution and the validity period are translated word for word.

Notarial form and register number

The series and number of the special notarial form, the notary's name and district and the register number are translated or described.

Apostille from the Ministry of Justice

Notarial documents in Ukraine receive the apostille from the Ministry of Justice; the page is translated on the same order.

Which version do you have

Notary in Ukraine or the Ukrainian consulate, which one signed

A Ukrainian power of attorney is certified by a private or state notary on a special notarial form, or by a consular officer at a Ukrainian consulate abroad. Each is translated in full, with the certification block and the apostille from the Ministry of Justice when present.

Notarial power of attorney

Special notarial form
  • One to three pages on a form with a series and number, closing with the notary's certification, seal and register number
  • Principal and attorney with tax numbers, powers, term, right of substitution and the notary's statement on identity and capacity
  • Every clause, the certification block, the seal text and the apostille are translated
  • Asked for by US banks, courts, title companies and the attorney acting for you in Ukraine

Send every page including the notary's block and the apostille page if you have one.

Consular power of attorney

Signed at a consulate
  • Pages certified by a consular officer, with the consulate's stamp, a consular register number and the fee
  • The same parties, powers and term, certified under the consul's signature
  • The text and the consular block are translated; the file notes that the original was certified at a consulate
  • Asked for by the same offices, usually when the principal lives in the US

Photograph every page and the consular stamp close up if it is faint.

The whole document, not just the fields

The whole document, form to seal

Page breaks and form numbers

Page numbers, the form number on each sheet and continuation marks are kept, so the reader knows nothing was dropped.

Handwritten corrections

A corrected word initialed by the notary or a handwritten date is translated and marked as handwritten.

Dates in words and figures

Ukrainian notaries write the date in words; the translation gives it in words and in month-day-year figures.

Seal wording in full

The wording inside the seal and any additional stamps, such as the one confirming a copy, are translated, not just labeled.

Where it is accepted

One translation, accepted where you need to file

The same certified file works for immigration, courts, universities and employers. Say who it is for when you order and the certificate is worded for that office.

USCIS

Same certified translation, laid out page by page so the clerk can compare it with the original.

Universities and WES / ECE

Admissions offices and credential evaluators get the certified English file with the original attached.

Questions answered

Ukrainian power of attorney, the questions we hear most

Can you translate a power of attorney certified at the Ukrainian consulate?

Yes. The consular certification block replaces the notary's and is translated in the same way.

Which ministry apostilles a Ukrainian power of attorney?

The Ministry of Justice, since it is a notarial document. The apostille is translated with the document when you have it.

The document is partly in Russian from an older date. Is that fine?

Yes. The source language is noted and the price is the same.

Will USCIS accept this translation?

It follows what USCIS asks for: the whole document in English plus a signed statement that the translator is competent and the translation is complete and accurate. Every order includes that statement, signed and dated by the translator.

How much does it cost and how fast is it?

From $23.70 per document, certification included. A one-page document is usually ready the next business day; the date is confirmed before you pay.
